Extatosoma
tiaratum (PSG 9)
Nymphs and
Ova
The ova of this species are almost black
when laid, but fade as they become older.
When they first hatch out, they have red
heads, and are excellent ant mimics. As soon as they hatch, they come out
running, and they will have tons of energy for the first few days. As they
grow, the sexes can be distinguished by the presence of or absence of spikes on
the dorsal surface (back). Females will have these spikes, while males lack them.
