Ghosts of the Trees: Walkingsticks and Leaf-Insects Co-authored with Orin McMonigle, it is (in my humble opinion), the best guide for raising stick-insects available. For the price, it is surely the best value out there. This is no technical manual, no major listing of species from around the world, but neither is it a fifteen page book talking about just Carausius morosus- the "Laboratory/Indian Stick-insect". After having raised more stick-insects than anybody in the history of the United States, some 100+ species, I feel confident in my qualifications to write this book. Together, Orin and I have probably worked with closer to 150 species! Unlike other books on the subject, Ghosts of the Trees places more emphasis on rearing US species. Popular exotic species which are in the mainstream hobby are featured as well. Care information is the main theme of the book, detailing everything from incubation of eggs, to care of nymphs and adults, to breeding, foodplants, containment, and much much more. For years I have answered probably thousands of emails on the subject of walkingstick-care. This was the reason I originally started my website (formerly called Phasmids in Cyberspace...some of you will remember)- to reduce the number of emails I was writing. Well honestly, I never felt like my website was complete, and I never had the time to write an entire book every time somebody asked me even basic questions via email. Still, many friends and just passers-through would note their appreciation for lengthy and helpful responses on everything from identification to care. Now, finally, I have all my thoughts in one place. Couple that with Orin's unrivaled knack for raising ANYTHING with six-legs and experiences writing similar books on mantids, true bugs, and beetles, and you have a book that guarantees results! Sure, it will cost you some money for a change, but I promise you, it is the last book you will ever need to buy on the subject of raising walkingsticks. And hey, if you ever have any other questions, the email address will still work;-) Price: $12, 44 pages, 50 b/w pics, color pics. on the front/back covers, softcover only. Shipping is $2.00 extra within the US. International shipping is $3.00 USD. ISBN# 0-9719129-4-7 Peter Clausen |
