Chinese Mantis (Tenodera aridifolia sinensis)

Order Mantodea
Family Mantidae
Subfamily Mantinae
Tribe Mantini
First Described Stoll 1813

This is the classic mantis.  It was introduced into the US from China.  Now it is one of the most common species, coast to coast.  Only Mantis religiosa comes a close second as most popularly encountered US species.  This is a great beginner species, as the nymphs are voracious, hardy, and grow quickly!
