Cuckoo Bee

This is a beautiful irridescent purple bee from Mexico.  It's rear legs are flattened at one portion, forming what are called pollen baskets where the bee picks up large clumps of pollen as it visits flowers.  The long tongue-like structure for collecting nectar is visible along the mid-line of the bee's underside.  Three small simple eyes (ocelli) occur between the two larger ones, on top of the insect's head.  These are lightness/darkness sensitive.
