Parasphendale agrionina (Budwing Mantis)
This mantis is given the name budwing because of its small vestigial wings. Though incapable of flight, the mantis does use them as part of a beautiful startle display. When threatened, the mantis quickly lifts both pairs of wings up. The undersides of the front wings are orange with black bands. The rear wings are a dark blackish-purple color. During the threat display, the Budwing mantis will also spread its arms wide (see photo below).
