Anisomorpha monstrosa (PSG 122)

From Belize, this nymph will grow to be a glossy black adult with orange/yellow markings.  This species also sprays an acidic solution from glands on the back of its thorax, which are capable of causing extreme discomfort and supposedly temporary blindness to those who mishandle it.  The liquid is milky and the fumes burn the mucous-membranes in my nose.  It's quite painful even from one individual, but only lasts a few seconds.  It didn't cause any noticeable reaction with my skin.

Foodplants: bramble, Ficus benjamina, privet
