Lopaphus caesius- Adults and Sub-adults (PSG 174)

Males of this species have a beautiful silver-blue thorax, and the thoraxes of both males and females are somewhat spiky.  At about the 3rd-instar, white spots appear on the thorax.  The first hint of blue is also visible at this stage.  They also have fascinating little appendages on the tips of their abdomens.  At maturity, both sexes are winged, although neither can fly.  Click here for pictures of nymphs and ova!
