Phobaeticus serratipes (PSG 25)

A specimen of Phobaeticus serratipes (formerly referred to as Pharnacia serratipes) holds the record for the longest individual insect ever at 555mm!  They originate in Malaysia, as well as Singapore, etc.  Females are commonly green but sometimes brown.  Males are much shorter than females.  Males have a blue and a black stripe along the sides of the thorax, and are winged, though they cannot fly.  The female below is just over 17 inches long from front legs to tip of abdomen; a rather small example!  It is extremely difficult to raise them to maturity in captivity without losing any legs.

Foodplants: bramble, oak, Photinia
