About

Before you order, please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with this page. BugsInCyberspace.com is a piece of virtual real estate that represents the experience and inventories of a handful of other networking hobbyists. As such, we have "day jobs" and participate in the hobby in a way that allows us to continue enjoying it. While we would like to answer every email immediately, we often spend our weekends "catching up". Similarly, we organize & pack our orders on the weekends and ship on either Mondays or Tuesdays. For the most part, we stick to this schedule. We sometimes make exceptions for large orders or special circumstances. This page communicates what you should expect from us and what we expect from you. Your order of products is automatically dispatched to the supplying vendor(s), who can look after your purchase at every step of the process within a few clicks in our fully SSL and triple-DES secured backend management system. If you are a manufacturer, vendor or hobbyist with a relevant product or service BugsInCyberspace.com may be interested in advertising your products to a growing hobby.

Frequently Asked Questions are answered on our FAQs Page, while our general terms and conditions are below.

General Terms and Conditions
Common Trade Practice and Acts and Laws where a purchase takes place shall be followed by both the customers and the distributors. Typically this means that the laws at the buyer's own location shall govern should a dispute on the purchase occur. In this regard, online shopping makes no difference to buying from a street shop near you. As eCommerce gains in popularity, governments and banks all have well-defined rules on consumer protections. A vast majority of online shoppers get their money back from the banks after disputing their purchases.
As a guidance, following is a list of terms and conditions that are standard practice in the industry.

1.      Accuracy: All information in this site is provided to our best ability and maintained, in part, by associations with participating vendors. However, in case of error Customer shall indemnify and hold harmless BugsInCyberspace.com against any and all claims, demands, actions, suits, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses, including without limitation reasonable attorneys' fees, costs and expenses relating to your use of our services. BugsInCyberspace.com makes no claim to educate Customer about potential dangers of bites, stings or allergic reactions resulting from handling our bugs. All arachnids should be considered dangerous unless otherwise noted. We do not advocate handling any bugs that you're not familiar with, including assassin bugs. With respect to the carrier, we do not ship any medically dangerous bugs including widows, recluses or Buthidae family scorpions.

2.      Price: Due to the dynamic nature of the market and our services, prices are subject to change without prior notice. In case of significant discrepancies between the posted and then the current prices, BugsInCyberspace.com will inform Customer prior to processing the charges.

3.      Returns or Damages: To the extent governed by laws, return of merchandise should be avoided as much as possible. We require vendors to inspect and ensure the merchandise prior to shipment. And we ask Customer to inspect all items upon receiving them. Customer must contact BugsInCyberspace.com on day of delivery with concerns about the health of animals. We request that Customers share responsibility with us for damage during shipment, caused by carrier neglect. We make no attempt to pursue insurance claims on orders of live bugs. We have explored this process in the past and deemed it unfruitful.

DOA’s (Dead On Arrival): BugsInCyberspace.com guarantees live arrival for all living animals shipped via Express Mail (overnight delivery). Live arrival is NOT guaranteed for living animals shipped using Priority Mail, or other non-overnight service levels (unless otherwise guaranteed in the informational section associated with same product). All DOA’s must be reported on same day as delivery, or guarantee is void. Guarantee is also void in the following scenarios: if you are not available to receive shipment when delivery is first attempted, and/or if Customer fails to notify BugsInCyberspace.com of extreme high/low temperatures (see Shipping Terms, below). Either photographic evidence or return of dead specimen is required, unless otherwise discussed.

4.      Photos: All photos on this website are original and not to be copied without permission. In some cases, photos are loaned to BugsInCyberspace.com to advertise a vendor's products. Photos rarely represent the actual specimen a Customer will be receiving. They are provided as a reference only. In many cases, our vendors have provided photos of outstanding specimens that represent the largest or showiest specimen they've ever raised.

5.      Payment: Payments will be settled between Customer and BugsInCyberspace.com. Return checks are subject to extra service charges by banks. Dishonored checks may be subject to penalty by laws and all other related collection cost, including attorney fees. We accept Purchase Order requests from schools.

6.      Shipping: As hobbyists with "day jobs", we hold orders for shipping for either Mondays or Tuesdays. Orders placed on these days will likely ship the following week. This ensures no weekend-related postal delays. By request, we sometimes ship mid-week (Express Orders and Books, only), if convenient. It is Customer’s responsibility to request a heat or ice pack (additional fees may apply) for live arrivals to be delivered in extreme weather conditions. Temperatures 35 degrees or below or above 90 degrees are considered extreme for live bug shipments. Because our supply base consists of networking hobbyists, parts of your order may be shipped from different locations. This means that portions of your order may arrive on different days.

Winter Shipping is generally in effect until May 1st, 2008 (most US destinations). We ship via the US Postal Service (USPS) using the following service levels. Please assume that you will have to sign for any order of live bugs.

Express Mail $21* Usually overnight, some destinations take 2 days. Signature required.
Priority Mail w/Signature $8* Usually 2-3 days. Signature Required to limit exposure to winter weather.
Priority Mail $5 Usually 2-3 days. Used mainly for non-living items or during mild weather.
First Class $2 Applies to book orders only, increasing by $2 for each book ordered.

*All costs above are base fees. Orders of more than one item may incur additional shipping cost, based on final weight of package.

International Orders: Sorry, no orders for LIVE bugs, please. We do not import or export live bugs. Books and Magazines are okay. Please contact us for . Our shopping cart is only set up to calculate shipping to US addresses. We do have contacts in many places around the world and are happy to refer you to a dealer in your country, if available.

In case of dispute, BugsInCyberspace.com will take every measure possible to protect the integrity of its trading platform services and to ensure the appropriate governing laws are obeyed by all parties. This includes termination of our services to any law-breaching parties.
